FRESH FACES

A Whole New Ball Game

06/30/08

The making of Sharon Sudusky’s career boils down to her innate skill of networking.

As the newly named business coordinator for Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut in Meriden, Sudusky plans to use that skill to promote universal health care for the nonprofit.

“I don’t know if my career chose me or I chose it,” Sudusky said. “I’ve always been involved in networking, marketing and connecting people.”

The Milford native and current West Haven resident lives by the mantra, “We must be the change we wish to see.”

“If you believe it, you’ll make it happen,” she said.

The 48-year-old mother of one is a graduate of Milford High School’s class of 1978. After taking time to travel, she settled in as corporate sales executive at the Rusty Scupper Restaurant in New Haven.

Over the course of her 10 years in that position, she became involved with the New Haven Chamber of Commerce. She’s now an ambassador with the chamber and serves on the board of directors of the Rotary Club of New Haven.

“My role is about connecting new chamber members to the right people,” she explained.

Her career also segued into sports. In March 2006, she began working as a corporate sales executive for the now defunct independent baseball team, the New Haven County Cutters.

That job brought her in touch with additional nonprofit organizations. “Baseball wasn’t even part of my job,” Sudusky said. “It was to connect with organizations in the community and give them the ability to be seen and heard, and help them make money.”

In Sudusky’s new position at the foundation, she is reaching out to the business community, listening to their concerns about health care and ensuring they have a voice.

“I love just being able to outreach, to meet these people and hear their stories,” she said. “It makes me want to see this change and it fuels my passion for the issue.”
